Mukutmanipur is roughly 45-50 km from Bankura town, about an hour and a half by road, in a different direction from Bishnupur. It's known for its earthen dam at the confluence of the Kangsabati and Kumari rivers — one of the larger earthen dams in India — with boating on the reservoir and viewpoints around the dam wall. Winter (November-February) is the most comfortable season to visit.

The dam itself is built across the Kangsabati river at the point where it meets the Kumari, creating a wide reservoir that's popular for boating, and the surrounding area has patches of forest that make for a pleasant change from the flat agricultural land closer to Bankura town. Sunset from the dam wall or one of the surrounding viewpoints is a common reason people time their visit for late afternoon.
