The best time to visit Bankura is between November and February, when daytime temperatures are mild and comfortable for sightseeing at Bishnupur's terracotta temples, Mukutmanipur dam, or a Susunia Hill trek. Summers (April-June) get very hot on the region's dry, red-soil plains, and the monsoon (June-September) brings heavy rain that can affect road travel to Mukutmanipur and Jhilimili.
Bankura's Three Seasons
Bankura sits on the western edge of the Bengal plains, where the laterite, red-soil terrain runs hotter and drier than the delta closer to Kolkata. That gives the district a fairly sharp seasonal swing.
Winter (November–February) — the best window
Mild days and cool nights make this the most comfortable stretch for sightseeing — walking around the Bishnupur temple complex, boating at Mukutmanipur, or an early-morning Susunia Hill trek are all far more pleasant without the summer heat.
Summer (April–June) — hot and dry
Temperatures climb well into the low-to-mid 40s°C on many days, and the region's exposed, rocky terrain toward Susunia and the Chota Nagpur plateau edge offers little shade. Early-morning outings are strongly recommended if you're travelling in this window.
Monsoon (June–September)
Reasonably heavy monsoon rain fills the Kangsabati and Kumari rivers feeding Mukutmanipur dam, which can be scenic, but road conditions toward Jhilimili and Ranibandh can be affected during heavy spells — worth checking conditions before a same-day trip.
